Travelling to Germany

A visa is not required for citizens of the European Union who wish to travel, stay or work in the Federal Republic of Germany. This rule also applies for nationals of Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland. However, these citizens have to be able to identify themselves at all times during their stay in Germany with the aid of a valid passport.

Stays in Germany longer than 90 days

If you move to Germany to work, study or live there for longer than 90 days you are required to register with the registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt/Bürgerbüro) in the town/city you move to. Also please ensure that you have health insurance coverage for your stay.

Please note that the yellow Danish health insurance card (“Sygesikringsbevis”), ID-cards issued by banks, the post or other Danish institutions as well as Danish driving licenses do not meet the national requirements and will therefore not be accepted as means of identification.
